Over the past decade, despite significant achievements in the field of enterprise architecture in Iran, the absence of a central reference institution for standardization, organization, supervision, and cultural development in this domain has posed significant challenges. These challenges include:
Lack of legal frameworks and incentives
No mechanism for evaluating the effectiveness of enterprise architecture projects
Insufficient oversight of enterprise architecture consultants
Inadequate reference documents (e.g., national frameworks, reference models, guidelines)
Inspired by the experiences of leading countries in enterprise architecture, which have established national frameworks and regulatory bodies, the Service-Oriented Enterprise Architecture Laboratory (SOEA Lab) was established in 2011 (1390) with the support of the Iranian Information Technology Organization and the efforts of the architecture team at Shahid Beheshti University. The lab aims to:
Develop reference frameworks and models for enterprise architecture
Evaluate enterprise architecture projects
Promote knowledge, cultural development, and capacity building
The idea of establishing the Iranian Informatics Association was proposed in 1977 (1356), and its charter was drafted and submitted. Following extensive discussions among interested individuals, a general meeting was held on September 19, 1978 (28 Shahrivar 1357), during which the current name of the association (replacing the previously proposed "Iranian Computer Association") was approved. A seven-member committee was elected to oversee the association's activities until its official registration and the formation of its first general assembly. The committee members were:
Mohammad Javad Ashjaee, Isfahan University of Technology
Late Morteza Anvari, School of Planning and Computer Applications
Lotfali Bakhshi, Free University of Iran
Ebrahim Behjat, Hedab Consulting Company
Behrouz Parhami, Tehran University of Technology
Hossein Jafari Fesharaki, Iritec Company
Ahmad Miratnia, Tehran University of Technology
After several months of continuous work, the committee officially introduced the Iranian Informatics Association on June 17, 1979 (27 Khordad 1358), marking the beginning of its activities.
The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering was established in 1976-1977 (1355-1356) under the name "Faculty of Comprehensive Informatics and Management", offering programs in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Applied Statistics, Accounting, and Management. Following the Islamic Revolution, after the merger of 52 higher education institutions and the formation of the University Complex of Science, the faculty absorbed students from the School of Planning and Computer Applications and the School of Mathematics and Management in Karaj. Over time, the Management and Statistics departments were transferred to other faculties, and the faculty was renamed "Faculty of Computer Engineering", later "Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering", and finally "Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering" in 2014 (1393).
The faculty offers programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels in fields such as:
Computer Engineering (Software, Hardware, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Architecture)
Information Technology (Enterprise Architecture, E-Commerce)
Since its inception, the faculty has been a pioneer in higher education, admitting students to master's programs in Computer Engineering (Software, 1998-1999), Electrical Engineering (Electronics, 2000-2001), and Computer Engineering (Hardware, 2003-2004). It also launched its Ph.D. program in Computer Architecture in 2003 (1382).
